Smart Plugs = 2.4GHz only?

The TP-Link smart plug I just received (Ohm deal) requires your mobile device connect to 2.4GHz WiFi network. Does anyone know if this is standard with other brands? Am I wrong for thinking it should connect to 5GHz as well? Kind of weak I have to make sure my phone is on the slower band to make this work. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I'm pretty sure 2.4Ghz is standard among wifi smart plugs. Having said that if your router is dual band you shouldn't have any problems.I have no issue controlling HS105 and HS110 plugs with my phone connected to my 5Ghz wifi. I also have no problem controlling them when away from home using Kasa and an internet connection.

    What issue are you seeing?
